ILOILO City – Job hire traffic auxiliaries here will be fully compensated for their 26 days of duty, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
However, the contracts of 50 of them won’t be renewed.
There are a total of 383 traffic auxiliaries in the city.
Recently, some complained they were working 26 to 27 days a month, even on weekends, but they were only paid for 20 days of duty.
Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu requested the city mayor to fully compensate the 26 days of all traffic personnel here. However, the Finance Committee said the city could not afford to pay that number of people.
Thus, in a meeting yesterday with Treñas, it was decided that the contract of 50 job hire traffic personnel will not be renewed to fully pay the rest for their 26 day of work for each month.
“There’s no reason for not having traffic personnel on the streets. They will report for 26 days,” Treñas said.
Previously, job hire traffic aides rendered only 20 days of service each month for a daily rate of P400. In 2019, the daily rate was raised to P500 daily for 26 to 27 days of duty or P13,000 to P13,500 a month.
But in May 2020, P100 was slashed from the P500 daily rate due to lack of funds because of the pandemic, said Conlu.
“Ang city government naga-balance man sang iya funds,” he explained “Nagapangayo lang ko anay sang pag-intindi sa ila kay ara ‘ta sa pandemic, ara ‘ta sa crisis,” Conlu said./PN
