ILOILO City – Late Staff Sergeant Michael Malan, a member of the Iloilo City Police Office’s (ICPO) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, has been formally extended with the highest honor of sympathy by the city council.
Through a resolution unanimously passed on Thursday, Nov. 9, the Iloilo City Council commended Malan’s bravery.
“We fought on various fronts. We fight it on a policy level, some on the executive level, but many have been fighting at the forefront, putting their lives at risk, and as a result, quite recently, we lost one of our heroes. With the prompting of our city mayor, this resolution commends these efforts with the permission of the office body and their committee resolutions,” Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna said during the introduction of the resolution.
He added: “For ICPO SWAT team leader Staff Sergeant Michael Malan’s ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty redounding to the benefit of Iloilo City and its constituents and its war on illegal drugs.”
Malan died during a buy-bust operation on Oct. 29 in Barangay Concepcion-Montes, City Proper. Illegal drugs amounting to P7.86 million were recovered.
Recently, Mayor Jerry Treñas has also extended his hand towards the late cop’s family and assured the public that the war against illegal drugs would not be over across the city./PN
