MANILA – Civil work for the proposed bridge connecting Panay, Guimaras and Negros islands will start “late next year,” Public Works secretary Mark Villar said on Thursday.
A feasibility study on the P21.67-billion planned infrastructure is currently being conducted, Villar told a press briefing in Malacañang.
“It’s still a priority,” he said. “But we have to understand that these bridges require a lot of detailed engineering. This process takes a year.”
“Size” and “complexity” factor in the completion of the feasibility study and detailed engineering design, Villar said.
“We can expect that we can start in the near future, not so far future. Malapit na po,” the secretary said, assuring that the bridge project will be completed before the Duterte administration ends.
Meanwhile Villar said the 21-kilometer New Bacolod Economic Highway in Negros Occidental is expected to be completed “in the next two to three years.”
Costing P4.8 billion, the road project stretches from the Bacolod-Silay Airport to Bacolod City.
“Aside from the highway, magkakaroon din po ng bike lanes and pedestrian infrastructure,” Villar said. “It is also an example of our new policy for infrastructure, which is to give emphasis sa pedestrian infrastructure.”/PN
