ANTIQUE – Sixteen towns in this province suspended classes in both public and private schools yesterday, September 2, due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, enhanced by Tropical Storm (TS) Enteng.
Data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed that classes were cancelled in all levels in Pandan, San Remigio, Sebaste, and Tibiao.
The other 12 towns – Anini-y, Barbaza, Belison, Caluya, Culasi, Hamtic, Laua-an, Libertad, San Jose, Sibalom, Tobias Fornier, Valderama – suspended classes from preschool to senior high school.
In Bugasong and Patnongon towns, both local government units (LGUs) left class suspension decision to school principal or administrator. Following this, the Antique Vocational School in Bugasong immediately suspended face-to-face classes yesterday.
As of this writing, Antique remained at blue alert status.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), chaired by Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, yesterday issued Memorandum No. 24, Series of 2024 maintaining of a blue alert status of emergency operation centers. This status indicates close monitoring, intensified coordination, and operational readiness to the potential adverse impacts of the weather situation.
This action is also being implemented due to the adverse effects of habagat enhanced by TS Enteng.
