BACOLOD City – Classes in public schools here resume on Jan. 4.

Teachers, however, are returning to work on Jan. 3, according to Richard Gelangre, president of the Bacolod Teachers Federation.

Gelangre, in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, said uniforms among students in the city’s public schools are not required, although for the student’s safety, these are recommended.

As for the usual problems among public schools, he pointed out that some do not have enough teachers.

Health protocols are still being followed, although the local teachers federation president affirmed that full blown face-to-face classes have since resumed, and so far no students or teaching staff tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Citing Department of Education Order No. 34 s. of 2022 or the “School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2022-2023,” the Christmas break in public schools is from Dec. 19, 2022 to Jan. 3, 2023, and classes are scheduled to resume on Jan. 4.

The School Year (SY) 2022-2023 officially started in public schools on Aug. 22. The current SY has 203 school days and will end on July 7, 2023./DGB, WDJ
