KALIBO, Aklan – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been placed all Boaracay ports on “heightened alert” in anticipation of sea travelers’ massive influx during the observance of Holy Week.

PCG intensified its security measures in transport facilities of Caticlan and Cagban in Malay, and Alegria in Buruanga and Dumaguit in New Washington to ensure safe and convenient travel of passengers.

The PCG also launched the “Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2019” for extra security measures for passengers travelling through the western seaboard.

The agency will also monitor Boracay Island and nearby areas by deploying security patrol teams and setting up Malasakit help desks to accommodate complaints of incoming and outgoing passengers.

A mandatory pre-departure inspection of vessels will also be conducted, according to PCG.

The popular Boracay Island is expecting more than 50,000 tourists during the observance of Holy Week this year. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
