CAPIZ – A dispute over a coconut tree was believed to have triggered the fatal shooting of an uncle in Sitio Naasug, Barangay Majanlud, Sapian, Capiz on Aug. 20.
Oscar Banate, 46, was a resident of Barangay Talon, Roxas City.
The suspect was Banate’s 32-year-old nephew Jonard Banate of Barangay Majanlud. He surrendered to the Sapian police station.
The shooting happened around 6 a.m.
According to Sapian chief of police Lieutenant Ma. Nanette Puasan, Jonard told the police he just defended himself from Oscar who tried to hack him.
Oscar was rushed to the Sen. Gerardo Roxas Memorial Hospital in Dao town where he was declared dead-on-arrival.
Initial investigation showed Jonard and Oscar were not on good terms over a coconut tree that Jonard’s parents planted many years ago but
