MANILA – Columbian Dyip head coach Johnedel Cardel is hoping that rookie Jaymar Perez can bring his explosiveness for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup to their campaign in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup starting this Friday.

Cardel said he is proud that the Pangasinense guard has turned out to be the most consistent local scorer for the national men’s basketball team and hopes he can do the same way for the Dyip.

“Sobrang saya dahil ang ganda talaga ng ipinakita niya para sa bayan,” Cardel said. “’Yung kumpiyansa niya, experience na nakuha doon (sa FIBA World Cup) madadala nya dito sa Columbian. Ang expectations namin sa kanya once bumalik na siya dito sa Columbian, he’ll be a much better player and one of the true leaders of this team.”

Cardel revealed he did not think twice lending Perez to Gilas head coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao as it is rare for a Dyip player to get an invite to play for the national men’s basketball team.

“Sabi ko sa kanya (Perez), ‘Gawin mo lahat ang dapat mong gawin,’” recalled Cardel, saying he had been in constant communication with his ward through Columbian’s Viber group chats.

“Sabi ko rin, ‘Don’t mind the score, basta give your best, bigay ka ng energy sa team,’” he added. “’And always be a good teammate to your team, win or lose.’”/PN
