ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Western Visayas has a new director.
Lawyer Wilfred Jay Balisado was the former director of Comelec in Region 9, or the Zamboanga Peninsula region comprising the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur, and cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Pagadian, Zamboanga, and Isabela.
Balisado replaced Atty. Dennis Ausan who is now the Comelec director in Region 7 (Central Visayas) covering the provinces of Bohol, Siquijor, Cebu, and Negros Oriental.
Ausan confirmed to Panay News that all regional directors of the Comelec have been reshuffled effective Aug. 2.
“As usual every national elections gina-reshuffle kami nga mga directors,” Ausan said.
Ausan also explained that although their new assignment took effect last Aug. 2, he is still in Iloilo City. He was unable to travel to Cebu due to travel restrictions, the same goes with Balasido who is still in Region 9.
However, Ausan said they have been working in with their new assignments via Zoom.
The reshuffling of regional directors is intended for fair elections.
As for the provincial directors of Comelec-6, Ausan said a reshuffling would be conducted before 2021 ends.
Meanwhile, Ausan said this was his third time to be reassigned to Region 7. His first was in 2010, then in 2019./PN
