BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here has postponed the scheduled satellite registration today, April 5, at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) following the cancellation of the classes.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez declared the cancellation of face-to-face classes from preschool to senior high school levels in this city from April 1 to 4 amid rising temperatures.

“However, private schools with air-conditioned rooms and tertiary-level institutions may exercise their discretion to continue with face-to-face classes,” he added.

Comelec officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said the agency is supposed to hold a satellite registration and voter education at UNO-R today but they decided to postpone.

She clarified that Comelec-Bacolod will still conduct a satellite registration sometime in May before the school year closes.

On the other hand, the satellite registration scheduled in Barangay Singcang-Airport on April 13 was moved earlier to April 9.

This is because the last day to file the opposition for the application of registration is April 12, and the first quarter Election Registration Board hearing will be on April 15 to 19.

“Anticipate naton basi may opposition nga mag-file gane utilize naton,” the Comelec officer said.

Trinio-Caña also mentioned that at least 12,228 applicants may be subjected to the hearing, and the list has already been posted at the city hall, barangay halls, and the Comelec office.

They can also request a copy at the agency’s office, she added./PN
