CAPIZ – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Capiz Province announced the suspension of accepting signatures supporting the people’s initiative aimed at amending the 1987 Constitution.
Atty. Wil Arceño, the provincial election supervisor, confirmed this during a recent radio interview.
According to him, they were instructed by the Comelec central office to preserve and secure the documents they have received so far to prevent any loss or tampering.
The suspension aims to allow the agency to review the resolution regarding the people’s initiative thoroughly, Arceño added.
Arceño further stated that the suspension will remain in effect until the Comelec central office issues another directive or until the review of the resolution is completed.
He clarified that the Comelec is not preventing individuals or organizations from gathering signatures, though the office will not accept them at this time./PN
