MANILA – Amid reports of impending proclamation among senatorial race frontrunners this Sunday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it was eyeing a single proclamation for the “Magic 12” senators.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said there was still no final date for the proclamation of winners as some matters have yet to be settled.

“No formal invitations have been sent out yet. That might have been a verbal indication of when the proclamation could happen at the earliest,” Jimenez said.

Camps of senatorial race frontrunners Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe on Friday claimed they received an invitation for proclamation from Comelec scheduled on Sunday.

“One of the directions we are going is one proclamation for both Senate and party-list winners. It just takes some time magkasama so hindi tayo pwedeng magmadali kasi kailangan i-compute muna natin ‘yung party-list,” Jimenez said.

“So take that into consideration, sobrang tentative pa nung Sunday. But as a heads up, it is a reasonable window, but not confirmed yet,” he added. “One proclamation would be more efficient, better for everyone tapos agad.”

Based on the partial count on Saturday, Villar and Poe continued to hold the top two spots followed by former special assistant to the president Bong Go, Taguig representative Pia Cayetano and former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa.

Also in the “Magic 12” were Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Manuel “Lito” Lapid, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, and Nancy Binay. /PN
