BACOLOD City – The local market committee has given another chance to several fish vendors of the Burgos Market in this city after undertaking a new compromise agreement with the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).
The recent agreement has given the vendors until March 31 of this year to pay their arrears, according to Councilor Celia Flor, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on market and a member of the LMC.
The reconsideration was in light of the vendors’ promise to make an initial payment of P5,000. The rest must be paid within the new deadline.
This is despite the earlier emphasis of the city’s legal office on compliance.
“We have no choice. We have to remove them because if we do not comply with what is stipulated in the notice, this will serve as precedence for the other vendors with pending accounts in the city, like in Libertad and Central,” legal officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said.
Based on the CTO’s record, more than 100 fish vendors have about P16,000 in arrears each.
Some 20 percent of them made full payment before the deadline on Jan. 31, while the rest failed to settle./PN
