BACOLOD City – A total of 239 traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) have so far been issued with stickers to indicate they have provisional authority (PA) to operate from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea said the sticker issued by the city government is proof that a traditional jeepney had already consolidated.

The sticker has a control number determined by LTFRB and a quick response (QR) code created by the city government.

The city government started issuing stickers after the deadline for the consolidation of public utility vehicles (PUV) on April 30, 2024.

Gelvolea confirmed several more traditional jeepneys have pending applications for consolidation, and she hoped the LTFRB would approve them.

Under the city’s Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), 24 routes were identified and 1,099 minibuses or consolidated jeepneys are needed to operate.

Aside from the aforementioned 239 traditional jeepneys, Gelvolea said more than 500 minibuses are also operating in the city.

Last week, the city government had said the city needs an additional 2,000 units of minibuses following a simulation exercise or pilot testing of routes under the city’s LPTRP.

The additional minibuses would help open new, extension and developmental routes, Gelvolea said./PN
