Construction worker arrested for ‘gun running’

ILOILO City – Police arrested a 40-year-old construction worker for selling an unlicensed firearm in an entrapment operation in Mandurriao district on Monday evening, June 2.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Angel,” a resident of the district’s Barangay Dungon C, was caught around 7:38 p.m. in Mirasol Subdivision by operatives of the Iloilo City Police Office’s City Intelligence Unit (ICPO-CIU).

According to the ICPO, Angel was apprehended after allegedly selling a Hi-Point Model C 9mm pistol without proper documentation, a violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. The arrest also falls under the ongoing Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Aside from the said firearm, also recovered were a magazine, four live rounds of ammunition, and the marked money used in the buy-bust.

The confiscated items will undergo ballistic testing at the Iloilo City Forensic Unit 6.

The suspect is now in the custody of the Police Station 5 while charges are being prepared./PN
