BUENAVISTA, Guimaras – Contact sports is prohibited in this town due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mayor Eugenio Reyes said it came to his attention that some people, most especially youngsters, were fond of playing contact sports such as basketball.
“Ginapahanumdum sa tanan nga ginadumili-an sa gihapon ang paghampang sang basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball kag tanan nga sahi sang contact sports,” said Reyes.
He cited his July 23-issued Executive Order (EO) No. 042, Series of 2020 (“An order restricting the holding of contact sports such as but not limited to basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball in the Municipality of Buenavista, Guimaras”).
On the other hand, walking, jogging, running, biking and other sports that allow physical distancing are allowed.
Part of the EO read: “…Indoor and outdoor non-contact sports and other forms of exercise such as but not limited to walking, jogging, running, biking, golf, swimming, tennis, badminton, equestrian, range shooting and skateboarding are allowed…provided, that the minimum public health standards such as wearing of mask and the maintenance of social distancing protocols, and no sharing of equipment where applicable, are observed. For this purpose, the prohibition in Section 5 (3) does not apply. Spectators in all non-contact sports and exercises shall be prohibited.”
As of Dec. 12, Buenavista’s COVID-19 cases reached 71 (cumulative data since March).
Of these , six we active cases. Sixty-five already recovered.
