MANILA – Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is more than excited to commence their campaign in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after completing the acquisition of the Alaska Aces franchise.
According to Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy, they are looking forward “to bring to the court a brand of basketball consistent with its revolutionary and entrepreneurial spirit.”
“Converge is extremely proud to be associated with the PBA, a pillar and institution in Philippine sports with a long and storied history,” Uy said in a statement.
“We are excited to commence our journey in building a track record and legacy of competitiveness, innovation, character, discipline, devotion and sportsmanship worthy of the support and respect of PBA fans,” he added.
“We look forward to contributing our share in delighting and hopefully exceeding the expectations of PBA fans for topnotch sports entertainment,” he further said.
Converge’s takeover of the Aces franchise was completed on Wednesday after getting the nod of the 11 other teams, including direct competitor TNT Tropang Giga.
In a report by Bilyonaryo website on Tuesday, it said that Uy’s desire to own a team in the PBA was to fulfill the lifelong dream of his uncle, Johnny Uy, who passed away late last year.
Uy’s uncle’s Johnny Supermarket was a team sponsor in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) basketball league during the 1970s.
Chito Salud, who will serve as Converge’s team governor, said that they will assess the composition of the team they will acquire from the Aces as to whether they will retain them.
“We will be looking at it in the coming days. We will assess the composition of the team that we will acquire from Alaska,” said Salud, a former PBA commissioner./PN
