BACOLOD City – Police took a 16-year-old student from Barangay Granada in protective custody in light of a complaint her mother filed against her teacher.
Emelyn Pagunsan said the male teacher has been letting her daughter sleep in his house in Charito Heights Subdivision. She suspects the teacher may be abusing her daughter.
Senior Police Officer 4 Arlene Torendon, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), said the teacher in Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School may be held liable for child abuse.
The WCPD investigated the mother’s complaint. Before reporting to the police, Pagunsan reported to Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas of the Department of Education – Division of Bacolod City.
The student has been sleeping in her teacher’s house since January this year, and the teacher allowed this despite knowing that the parents were looking for her, Torendon said, citing investigation.
The teacher even gave the student a key to his house, said Torendon.
Earlier Pagunsan said the teacher admitted her daughter and other students slept in his house.
Torendon clarified their investigation did not find any indication that the teacher sexually abused the student. The student herself denied this, the officer said.
Now the WCPD is waiting for the student’s family to decide whether or not they will press charges, said Torendon. It is also common for the WCPD to take in custody minors involved in similar cases, she said./PN
