BACOLOD City – A 31-year-old mother of four in Barangay Himocdongon, Mabinay, Negros Oriental survived a rape attempt but not without getting stabbed all over her body, police said.

Roselyn De Los Santos was sleeping with her children when a drunken Kevin Ambos, 25, of the nearby Barangay Napasuan barged into their house and attacked her around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, said Senior Inspector Ian Paul Rafols.

She tried to avoid the suspect, but the latter got a knife and stabbed her. De Los Santos shouted for help while her children cried, police said.

Awakened by the commotion, the neighbors rushed to rescue De Los Santos while the suspect hurriedly escaped. She was taken to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City and is now recuperating.

Police searched for Ambos and caught him around 9 a.m., said Rafols. Detained in the Mabinay police station lockup cell, the suspect is facing attempted rape and frustrated homicide charges, he said.

De Los Santos’ husband was not at home at the time. He was driving a cargo truck loaded with sugarcane to the Bais City Sugar Central./PN
