Coronavirus spreads to more NIA-6 employees

ILOILO City – The number of National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region 6 employees positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has risen to 19.

NIA-6’s office is in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district.

According its public information officer Steve Cordero, the 19 employees were made up of 11 men and eight women.

They were assigned in three offices – the regional office, the project management office of the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project and Iloilo-Guimaras Irrigation Office all in Barangay Tacas.

Two have so far recovered, Cordero told Panay News yesterday.

The 17 other cases were asymptomatic and being isolated in the quarantine facilities of their respective local government units.

According to Cordero, the 19 COVID-19-positive personnel were part of the 274 NIA-6 employees so far tested as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the disease; 142 test results have so far been released as of yesterday.

The 130 employees still waiting for their test results are currently on home quarantine.

Cordero said NIA-6 regional manager Engineer Gerardo Corsiga was one of those tested and he was negative of COVID-19.

NIA-6’s compound, on a 72-hour lockdown since Aug. 19, would be lifted this Friday night.

Cordero said NIA-6 may resume operation next week but perhaps with a limited workforce in the office. Some may be working from home./PN
