Councilor in police recruitment controversy says he’s a victim, too

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – The town councilor, entangled in an alleged police recruitment scam, claims he too was deceived.

La Castellana, Negros Occidental councilor Donato Dumaguit apologized to the victims of the suspected illegal recruiter, Mary Jun Delos Santos, during a Bombo Radyo-Bacolod interview over the weekend.

Dumaguit said he did not receive any money; instead, the applicants paid Delos Santos, who is now nowhere to be found.

Having lost contact with her, Dumaguit said he is unaware of any further demands Delos Santos might have made from the victims.

The councilor emphasized that he would be able to provide a comprehensive explanation once authorities apprehend Delos Santos.

Forty-seven individuals have come forward seeking assistance after they paid significant amounts hoping to secure positions within the Philippine National Police. They believe they were deceived.

Furthermore, Delos Santos is also accused of promising positions within the Philippine Coast Guard, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

The case is currently under investigation by the National Police Commission in Western Visayas, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and the National Bureau of Investigation. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
