BACOLOD City – A live-in couple was found dead with fatal stab wounds inside their residence in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on May 20.
Police reports indicate that the couple — identified as aliases “Marilie”, 26, and “Fernando”, 29 — allegedly engaged in a heated argument that escalated into a violent confrontation, during which they injured each other using bladed weapons.
According to the investigation conducted by the Kabankalan City Police Station, the altercation occurred around 5:30 p.m. The dispute reportedly stemmed from Fernando’s disapproval of Marilie’s plans to return to Bacolod City to work as a house helper.
During the altercation, both parties reportedly wielded bladed weapons, including a sickle (garab), a knife, and a cane cutter, which were recovered at the scene.
Marilie died on the spot due to multiple stab wounds. Fernando was rushed to the Kabankalan District Hospital and later referred to a hospital in Bacolod City. However, while en route, he experienced difficulty breathing, prompting the ambulance to divert to the Gov. Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in Himamaylan City, where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities also confirmed that the couple’s six-year-old child was inside the house when the incident occurred.
The police were continuing their investigation into the case./PN
