Bacolod SP urges inspection of drinking establishments

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is urging the City Legal Office (CLO) and the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) to conduct a thorough survey and inspection of business establishments serving alcoholic beverages in the city.

The move follows the approval of a resolution calling for the inspection of drinking establishments to ensure they have secured the necessary business permits, during the SP’s regular session on Wednesday, May 21.

Councilor Jason Villarosa said he filed the resolution in response to a violent incident that took place around midnight on May 12 involving two groups outside a resto-bar along Lacson Street, Barangay Mandalagan. The altercation led to the stabbing incident and death of an 18-year-old male, a resident of Barangay Efigenio Lizares, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Ang duha ka grupo nag-rumble kag nag-ginamo bisan liquor ban pa kag bag-o lang natapos ang election, gane nag-file kita resolution urging the CLO and BPLO to survey and investigate mga drinking establishments and bars nga naga-serve sang alcoholic drinks kung may mga necessary permits ang mga ini,” the councilor said.

City Legal Officer Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu said the BPLO informed him that the establishment linked to the incident has voluntarily committed to temporarily cease operations while processing its business permit — even though the stabbing took place outside the premises.

Chiu also emphasized that the CLO had previously issued a reminder to all business owners in the city to ensure they are operating with valid business permits.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported that the suspect in the stabbing incident has voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

The suspect was identified as alias “Adrian,” 19, a college student and resident of the city’s Barangay Granada./PN
