BACOLOD City – A 60-year-old man who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) jumped to his death from the fifth floor of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital’s (CLMMRH) West Tower building yesterday afternoon.
Police declined to name the man but confirmed that he was a resident of Barangay Estefania.
An hour prior to the suicide, the man was visited by a hospital nurse and given medication, according to Police Captain Paul Vincent Pendon, Police Station 2 commander.
From what the police so far gathered, the man asked the nurse if he could go home and was told he could not for the time being.
At around noon, a hospital security guard heard a loud thud on the roof of the hospital’s water treatment facility. He checked it out and saw the man already lifeless.
Police deemed the case a suicide and not a botched attempt to escape from the hospital.
Nurses noted the man showed signs of depression lately./PN
