CPU keeps ILOPRISAA HS girls volley title

ILOILO City – Central Philippine University Golden Lions retained its crown in the 2023 ILOPRISAA secondary girls volleyball tournament after beating Ateneo de Iloilo in the finals on Wednesday at the University of San Agustin Gym here.

Rovy Ann Amuan was named as the Most Valuable Player and Best Setter after leading the Jeffrey Alcarde-mentored Golden Lions to its 15th consecutive ILOPRISAA high school girls volleyball tiara.

National U-18 girls volleyball team member Zacchea Maganto got the Best Server and Best Opposite Hitter award, Jesselle Abrot as Best Libero, Josline Salazar and Rossy Sumalacay as 1st and 2nd Best Middle Blocker to complete the CPU awardees.

Ateneo de Iloilo’s Via Pauline Resano, meanwhile, was named as 2nd Best Outside Hitter, while Nicole Graxe Deala of bronze medallist Santa Clarita International School took home the 1st Best Outside Hitter citation.

Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix, meanwhile, pulled off a huge stunner as it unseated many-time secondary boys volleyball champion CPU Golden Lions in their tightly-contested finals encounter.

CJ Alconera bagged the Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Outside Hitter awards after spearheading the Christian Ray Gallofin-mentored Red Phoenix to a historic ILOPRISAA high school boys volleyball crown.

Andraie Jara Falsis was named as Best Opposite Hitter, Valdemar Layson as Best Libero, Shedney Ira Sostido as 2nd Best Middle Blocker and Lance Tristan Pirote as Best Setter to complete the Hua Siong awardees.

Golden Lions’ Bryx Colen Deocampo was hailed as the tournament’s Best Server while Jetro Andi Delicana was named as 1st Best Middle Blocker, and Modesto Magbanua of third placer University of San Agustin was the 2nd Best Outside Hitter.

Meanwhile, Hua Siong College of Iloilo dominated the ILOPRISAA elementary volleyball tournament by sweeping the championships in the boys and girls category.

Also, Central Philippine University men’s booters continued their ILOPRISAA dominance as they successfully defended their secondary boys football championship./PN
