ILOILO City – Crime incidents in this city have dropped to their lowest in three years, driven by intensified police visibility and community-focused law enforcement strategies, according to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
From January to April 2025, total crime cases fell to 1,692 — a decline of 6.5% from the 1,809 incidents recorded in the same period last year.
More notably, focus crimes under the Peace and Order Index plummeted by 42.5%, from 127 to just 73.
Murder cases halved from six to three, physical injuries dropped sharply from 29 to nine, and theft incidents also declined from 61 to 41. These improvements were welcomed by local officials as a sign of effective crime prevention and response.
“These statistics reflect the effectiveness of our ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and reinforce law enforcement in Iloilo City,” said Joy Fantilaga, spokesperson for Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Despite the downward trend, Mayor Treñas directed the ICPO to further increase police presence, especially in business process outsourcing (BPO) hubs and other areas active during late hours.
“Our city’s safety is a top priority. We want all residents and visitors to feel secure, especially those working late shifts,” said Treñas. “We will never go back to a time when peace and order were uncertain. Under my leadership, security will always come first.”/PN
