Crimes in Bacolod down 24% in first 2 weeks of November

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reported a 24.04-percent decrease in crime volume from Nov. 1 to 14 this year compared to the same period last year.

Index and non-index crimes dropped in the first two weeks this month, said Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of the BCPO.

Index crimes – violations against person and property – comprise murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping, and stealing of motorcycles.

Such crimes decreased 50 percent to just 20 incidents on Nov. 1 to 14 this year from 40 in the same period last year.

Theft cases in particular were down 62.5 percent during the 14-day period to only six this year from 16 last year.

Non-index crimes, on the other hand, mostly included reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injury, and damage to property, and violations of other special laws, among others.

Such crimes declined 7.81 percent to 59 incidents this year from 64 last year.

Gabana on Thursday credited these to “sustained enhanced management police operations.”

Meanwhile, the BCPO conducted 18 anti-illegal drug operations during the two-week period.

These operations led to the arrest of 26 suspects, including one “high-value target” and 21 “newly identified personalities.”

A total of 48 cases have been filed in relation to the arrests.

Moreover, its various units seized 63.28 grams of shabu with a street value of P949,201.50 and 173.103 grams of marijuana valued at P39,913.69, the BCPO said. (With Philippine News Agency/PN)
