Dao school gets ‘storm-proof’ classrooms

DAO, Capiz — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) donated two classrooms to Magtanop Elementary School here.

Mostly made of concrete, the new classrooms are “typhoon-resistant,” according to NGCP.

They will be used by Grades 5 and 6 pupils, said Lourdes Estonina, teacher-in-charge.

Marlon Destreza, Department of Education district supervisor here, said the school in Brgy. Magtanop had only makeshift classrooms for its Grade 5 and 6 classes.

The makeshift classrooms were made of light materials, like wood and bamboo, and galvanized-iron sheets.

Destreza said the pupils and teachers were complaining that it is very hot inside them.

He said the new classrooms from NGCP will provide the pupils an environment conducive for learning, which can help improve their academic performance.

NGCP corporate affairs head Nelson Cabangon said the construction and turnover of the new classrooms was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility./PN
