Davao past Parañaque in MPBL

MANILA – Negrense forward Mark Yee came up with a double-double showcase as the Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife defeated  Parañaque Patriots-Yabo Sports ,78-70, in the the 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Lakan Season on Wednesday at the San Andreas Sports Complex.

The Sagay City product scored 17 points and 17 rebounds alongside six assists, as Davao raised their win-loss card to 22-4.

Emman Calo had 13 markers built on three treys, while Chester Saldua added 11 points, five steals, and four boards for Davao to bounce back after absorbing a humiliating 84-65 defeat against San Juan Knights.

“Parañaque played tough. This is another learning experience for us. It is good playing against those hungry and young teams,” said Davao coach Don Dulay.

With Parañaque leading 27-21 early in the second period, Davao unleashed a 16-1 scoring barrage, capped by Yee’s layup to gain control of the match, 37-28, with 3:28 remaining in the quarter.

The flow was controlled by Davao at 76-63 with 3:40 remaining in the fourth before Parañaque made a seven unanswered offensive run, capped by Keith Pido’s jumper, 70-76, with 45 ticks left, but Davao concluded the game thereafter with a basket from  Angelus Raymundo.

James Abugan’s 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block performance could not stop Parañaque from committing its seventh straight loss as they slipped to 13th place in the Northern Division with an 8-20 record./PN
