BACOLOD City – Drainages in this city are being declogged following the flooding on Sunday afternoon, April 30.
Parts of the Reclamation Area, particularly in SM City, San Juan Street, and corner Magsaysay-Araneta Avenue along the flyover, became were impassable to vehicles. Floodwaters entered some government offices, too.
The overflow of Mambuloc Creek contributed to the flooding, based on the initial investigation of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Bacolod City Engineering District. The drainage system of a mall in the area may also be old and non-functional.
To address this, the DPWH is declogging drainages and will implement a diversion drainage channel project from Mambuloc Creek going to the Reclamation Area, according to District Engineer Abraham Villareal.
“Along the Magsaysay area, we allocated P5 million to arrest the flooding in that place,” he said.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez also recommended the creation of a mapping plan that shows the city’s waterways and drainage projects that were done, are ongoing, and need to be done./PN
