MANILA – Another Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) official has been removed from her post over the P1.4-billion land acquisition deal entered into by former OWWA administrator Arnell Ignacio.
According to Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro, OWWA deputy administrator Emma Sinclair was also removed from her post due to loss of trust and confidence.
“Mayroon pa pong isa na makakasama, ang deputy [administrator] na si Emma Sinclair, pareho po silang tinanggal. Hindi po sila pinag-resign,” Castro said in a media briefing at the Malacañang Palace on Wednesday.
Castro added that the ouster of Ignacio and Sinclair should serve as a warning to all public servants that they will all be fired if they do not fulfill their duties to the public.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has previously stated that it is in the process of collecting additional information regarding the land acquisition, which allegedly lacked authorization from the OWWA board, prior to initiating legal action against those implicated.
The P1.4-billion land acquisition, conducted under Ignacio’s administration, was intended for the establishment of a halfway house or dormitory-style accommodation for overseas Filipino workers, to be situated near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac mentioned that the DMW is currently assessing whether the project should proceed./PN
