Defeated Isabela mayor seeks recount of votes

BACOLOD City – Defeated Mayor Joselito Malabor of Isabela, Negros Occidental seeks manual recount of votes following his loss to challenger Irene Montilla during the May midterm elections.

Malabor filed yesterday a petition for recount before the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court questioning the validity of the poll results. He lost by 48 votes.

Malabor got 13,844, closely trailing Montilla who received 13,892 votes.

The incumbent mayor wants to clear the alleged double transmission of votes in the SD cards.

He also regarded the “rushed proclamation” of his opponent as “suspicious.”

Irene is the wife of the late former town mayor Enrique Montilla III who passed away last 2017.
