ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. ordered the new Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director to intensify the campaigns against illegal fishing, drugs and gambling.
Passi City native Police Colonel Ronald Palomo paid the governor a courtesy visit on Friday afternoon, March, 3, before the turnover of command in Camp Martin Delgado.
“Together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Command, the province and the municipalities, we can rationalize our roles for the better management and prevention of illegal fishing at the Visayan Sea,” Defensor said, in line with his first marching order on illegal fishing.
The second is to curb illegal gambling. He said the existence of illegal gambling operators results in revenue loss.
The third is the sustained fight against illegal drugs.
“We will have a Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting, and we will review what we have done. Again, we must continue to intensify our campaign against illegal drugs,” the governor told Palomo.
Defensor added he will coordinate with the IPPO director in terms of civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management through an established 24/7 communication service.
Meanwhile, Palomo vowed full support to the anti-crime programs of the governor. He said the major peace and order programs of the governor are anchored on his comprehensive response on security and safety, which he presented to Defensor.
He further thanked the governor for providing him with an opportunity to serve his fellow Ilonggos.
On Friday, Palomo formally assumed his new post, replacing outgoing IPPO chief, Police Colonel Noel Aliño, during a turnover of command ceremony in Camp Martin Delgado.
