CAPIZ – A 22-year-old delivery rider was shot dead by two still-unidentified motorcycle-riding men shortly after completing a parcel delivery in Roxas City, Capiz, on the afternoon of July 28, police said.
The victim was identified as Chester Azurquin Alagon, a resident of Barangay Dinginan.
Police said Alagon had just delivered a parcel in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Sibaguan, when the suspects suddenly opened fire before fleeing on a motorcycle.
Roxas City Police Station chief Lt. Col. Rogelio Tomagtang Jr. said investigators have ruled out robbery as the initial motive since the assailants did not take the victim’s money or personal belongings.
“Nothing was stolen from the victim,” Tomagtang said in an interview with Brigada FM Roxas, adding that police are exploring other possible motives behind the killing.
Investigators are reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and gathering information from residents to identify the suspects.
Some residents told police they had allegedly seen unidentified individuals watching and following Alagon on several occasions before the fatal shooting, a lead now being examined by investigators.
Authorities have yet to identify the gunmen or announce any arrests.
Meanwhile, fellow delivery riders from the Capiz Roxas Hub called for justice for Alagon, describing him as a hardworking and responsible colleague who continued making deliveries despite extreme weather conditions and heavy workloads to help support his family.
His co-workers also remembered him as cheerful, kind, humble, and well-loved among fellow riders.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and pursue leads to establish the motive behind the killing./PN
