ILOILO City – Certain neighborhoods in nine barangays here were placed on surgical lockdown for having cases of the more contagious Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order No. 76-2021 imposing surgical lockdown for the following areas:

* portion of Jereos Street, La Paz district

* portion of Magsaysay Village, La Paz district

* portion of Rica Village, Mac Arthur Drive, Jaro district

* portion of Metropolis Subdivision in Jaro district

* commercial building across Arroyo Elementary School, Avanceña Street, North Fundidor, Molo district

* a portion in Ana Ros Subdivision, Calahunan, Mandurriao district

* an apartment building, Guzman Street, Mandurriao district; and

* a boarding house in First Homes Subdivision, Navais, Mandurriao district

The surgical lockdown will be until 5:59 a.m. on Aug. 28.

Eleven Delta variant cases were recorded in these areas, said Treñas, but all already recovered.

These areas have a curfew from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Residents were advised to refrain from unnecessary travel until the COVID-19 testing and sanitation process has been completed.

Meanwhile, all forms of transport, both private and public including the unauthorized movement of persons along the streets of the affected barangays, are restricted.

Exempted from the said restrictions are persons who need immediate hospital care and management and other authorized persons.

On the other hand, mandatory reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing for all high-risk and medium-risk contacts of the COVID-19 positive cases in the affected barangays will be implemented.

The city government will also provide the food and medical needs for the affected residents, the mayor said.

Strict implementation of various health intervention measures such as gatherings of any kind of people not belonging to the same household shall be strictly prohibited.

Persons above 65 years old or below 18 or those who are pregnant or suffering from any comorbidity or immunodeficiency must also stay at home except for the purpose of obtaining essential goods and services, or for work.

Moreover, the sale and consumption of any form of liquor or alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

There will be strict border control in the affected barangays for the duration of surgical lockdown.

Corresponding penalties would be imposed against violators of the order./PN
