AKLAN – Dengue cases in this province have climbed to 605 as of July 26, with 22 new infections recorded in just one week, according to the latest bulletin released by the Provincial Health Office on July 30.
The data covers the period from January 1 to July 26 this year, with the municipality of Ibajay reporting the highest number of cases at 159, followed by Malay with 101, and Nabas with 72. The province has also recorded one dengue-related death.
The bulletin also identified barangays with clustering of dengue cases, including Agbago and Ondoy in Ibajay; Caticlan, Manoc-Manoc, and Yapak in Malay; and Buenasuerte and Toledo in Nabas.
In response to the rising cases, health officials are urging the public to actively participate in the 5S strategy to help combat the spread of the disease: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites such as containers, carts, jars, pails, and drums; secure self-protection by wearing long-sleeved clothing and using mosquito repellent; seek early consultation, especially when symptoms such as high fever and body aches appear; support fogging and spraying operations, particularly in hotspot areas; and sustain hydration, especially for individuals experiencing fever due to dengue.
Municipalities with the most new cases last week included Ibajay (nine), Malay (six), and Nabas (three), while other areas reported either zero or isolated new infections.
Health authorities continue to monitor and respond to the situation through the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, calling for community cooperation to help suppress the outbreak./PN
