ILOILO City — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 has launched a month-long environmental campaign aimed at mobilizing communities across Western Visayas to take a more active role in protecting natural resources, restoring ecosystems, and promoting environmental sustainability.
The initiative, which coincides with the observance of Environment Month this June, brings together government agencies, local government units, and community stakeholders in a series of activities focused on biodiversity conservation, forest protection, marine preservation, and environmental awareness.
The campaign officially opened on June 1 at the DENR-6 office in Iloilo City, led by Regional Executive Director Raul Lorilla, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Edgardo Rostata, Environmental Management Bureau regional director Atty. Ramar Niel Pascua, and Mines and Geosciences Bureau regional director Cecilia Ochavo-Saycon.
During the launch, Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group chief Artemio Salvador Colacion presented the agency’s lineup of activities for the entire month, highlighting programs that encourage public participation in environmental stewardship and ecosystem restoration efforts.
Among the major activities scheduled are the observance of Forest Patrollers Day from June 2 to 4, Philippine Eagle Week from June 4 to 10, World Environment Day on June 5, World Oceans Day on June 8, World Sea Turtle Day on June 16, DENR’s 39th Anniversary and Family Day on June 10, DENR Permitting on Wheels in Capiz on June 17 and 18, DENR VI Pasidungog on June 22, Philippine Arbor Day on June 25, and the culmination of Environment Month on June 30.
“Let us embody the spirit of Bayanihan for our mother earth. Together, let’s protect, nurture, and sustain Western Visayas,” DENR-6 urged the public in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo Provincial Government, through the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), is also observing Environment Month through activities promoting environmental awareness, public health, community participation, and sustainable development.
PGENRO’s activities include the Environment Month kickoff through Brigada Eskwela and a clean-up drive on June 1, World Environment Day on June 5, Dengue Awareness Day on June 23, a Provincial Solid Waste Management Board meeting on June 25, and the province-wide Tanum Iloilo and Arbor Day celebration on June 27.
