INNOVATION among businesses is expected to increase following the issuance of Executive Order (EO) No. 99, which paved the way for the establishment of the “Presidential Filipinnovation Awards.”
The EO, issued October 6, 2025, aligns with Republic Act (RA) No. 11293 or the “Philippine Innovation Act”, which promotes innovation to boost economic growth in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s bid for a competitive, knowledge-based, and innovation-led economy, according to the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev).
“This initiative highlights the vital role of innovation in shaping a more dynamic, competitive, and inclusive economy,” DEPDev Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said. “We thank President Marcos for institutionalizing this recognition, which will inspire more Filipino individuals and enterprises to innovate for economic development.”
He added: “Innovation thrives when government, industry, academe, and communities work together. This EO reinforces our collective mission to build a future where Filipino ideas translate into marketable and game-changing solutions.”
DEPDev said 15 finalists nationwide have been identified and they will pitch their proposals before the national board of judges and a live audience during the competition scheduled on November 5 to 6.
The finalists will be given the opportunity to showcase their innovative products, services, and processes through exhibits during the national competition.
Winners will receive a medallion and plaque bearing the official seal, citation, and signature of the President, and grants or support like mentorship, coaching, and participation in international innovation events to help them showcase their innovations.“This year, the Philippines has reached a major milestone, as it climbs to 50th place out of 139 economies in the 2025 Global Innovation Index — its highest ranking to date,” the press release added.
