ILOILO – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will hold an orientation to neophyte mayors in this province on the second week of July.

The orientation would be held in Metro Manila, according to DILG-Iloilo director Teodora Sumagaysay.

The Local Government Academy, an attached agency of DILG, already prepared the needed modules, she added.

“We are just waiting for them to assume office then maka-start na kita capacitate these new local officials,” said Sumagaysay, “for them to be aware of their duties and responsibilities, to empower them.”

The province’s new governor, Cong. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr., would also be included in this orientation.

For reelected mayors, an orientation would also be held but after that of the new mayors, and to be conducted only in this province, said Sumagaysay.

The specific date and venue would be announced at a later date.

Iloilo province has 42 municipal mayors and one component city mayor.

For provincial and municipal sanggunian members, DILG is letting the Philippine Councilors League do the orientation, said Sumagaysay.

This would probably take place once these officials have settled in their respective offices, she said./PN
