ANTIQUE – A 48-year-old farmer was fatally shot by his drinking companion in Barangay Igtumarum, Anini-y town.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23.
The suspect, 39-year-old farmer Jessy Camacho who was a resident of the barangay, reportedly opened fire following a heated argument that erupted during their evening drinks.
The victim, Richan Bermundo, and Camacho were enjoying an alcoholic beverage when a mutual friend, Robert Almiñe, became embroiled in a misunderstanding with Camacho.
According to Police Captain Joey Catillon, the police chief of Patnongon, the argument escalated rapidly.
Camacho allegedly struck Almiñe on the head with a beer bottle, causing minor injuries.
In an attempt to intervene, Bermundo wielded a bolo and inflicted a significant wound on Camacho’s left arm.
The confrontation reached its deadly climax when Camacho, in response, drew a firearm and shot Bermundo multiple times.
Emergency responders rushed Bermundo to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Camacho surrendered to the local police force of Anini-y.
Responding policemen recovered at the crime scene seven empty shells from a .45 pistol, the pistol itself, a magazine, and the 20-inch bolo used in the altercation.
