ILOILO City – Problems with his girlfriend’s family may have driven a 27-year-old man to commit suicide in Zone 1, Barangay Quipot, Janiuay, Iloilo.
Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, a younger brother found a dead Elery Adurante hanging from the ceiling of their nipa hut. Around Adurante’s neck was a thick, blue nylon rope.
The hut was just a few meters away from the Adurante family’s house, said Senior Inspector John Paul Guay, officer-in-charge of the Janiuay police station.
The night before Adurante was found dead, he had a drinking binge with friends at the barangay’s public market.
According to Guay, friends told police investigators Adurante repeatedly talked about killing himself over problems with the family of his girlfriend. Adurante, however, was not clear about those problems.
An uncle, Antonio Palermo, told the police that around 1:15 a.m. on May 21, he saw Adurante walking home, carrying a blue rope./PN
