MANILA – De La Salle University Green Archers achieved a three-peat in the UAAP Men’s 3×3 basketball, defeating the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the Season 87 Finals, 15-12, at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City.
Andrei Dungo led the way with seven points, Earl Abadam added four markers, while Jan Macalalag and Elaijah Gollena contributed two markers apiece for the Green Archers.
The Green Archers surged to a 9-3 start before the Growling Tigers responded with their own run to cut the deficit to 12-15 with over a minute remaining in the contest.
The Growling Tigers still tried to come even closer but the tight defense of the Green Archers in the final minute prevented them from converting their shots.
Amiel Acido top-scored for the Growling Tigers with eight points, Angelo Crisostomo added three markers, and Ice Danting contributed a single basket.
Adamson University Falcons claimed the men’s bronze with a 21-20 escape over National University Bulldogs. Cedrick Manzano and Ray Allen Torres tallied eight points apiece for Adamson.
Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles claimed the women’s 3×3 championship following a 21-17 victory over Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the finals.
With the score tied at 17-all, the Blue Eagles regained the lead at 19-17 following an outside shot from Junize Calago. Kacey dela Rosa then sealed the crown with a free throw and a putback.
Dela Rosa finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Eagles, Calago added seven markers, while Kai Oani chipped in three markers in the win.
Meanwhile, dethroned champions UST Growling Tigresses took the bronze medal with a 15-14 victory over the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
