MANILA – Three Filipinos have reportedly died due to flooding in the United Arab Emirates, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced.

DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said on Friday that two of the victims were females while the other one was male.

Their relatives were already informed about the incident, he added.

“With extreme sadness, we report their death. We shall provide utmost support and assistance to their families,” Cacdac said.

According to Cacdac, two of the victims died due to suffocation inside their vehicle during the flood, while another one passed away due to a vehicular accident.

“The victims’ next of kin have been informed, but I am not at liberty to disclose the names of the three overseas Filipino workers as of now,” Cacdac said.

Cacdac further said that their Migrant Workers Office has been working closely with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to provide all assistance to the families of the three OFWs.

The rains were the heaviest experienced by the United Arab Emirates in the 75 years that records have been kept. They brought much of the country to a standstill and caused significant damage.

Based on DMW records, there are currently 648,929 Filipinos in Dubai, but none have requested to be repatriated amid the floods./PN
