ILOILO — The Lambunao municipal police are banking on DNA test to identify the culprit behind the killing of a seven-year-old girl in Barangay Tampucao, as investigators continue close surveillance on several persons of interest but have yet to establish probable cause for an arrest.
The case — involving a child who was found dead inside her home on November 8 — has alarmed the community and prompted authorities to intensify evidence gathering.
Police Captain Jose Winston Biadog, chief of the Lambunao Municipal Police Station, said the investigation remains active and methodical.
“We are committed to ensuring that no stone is left unturned in our investigation,” he said.
Seven individuals have been identified as persons of interest, but police stressed that further verification is needed while they await forensic confirmation.
DNA samples were submitted to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory in Camp Crame on November 13, with results expected in about three weeks.
Biadog said the team continues to validate leads, gather statements, and monitor developments that may help clarify who was responsible for the child’s death.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Social workers assisted them in processing financial aid for burial expenses.
The child will be laid to rest on December 5.
