CEBU CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) will look into the deaths of two infants in Lapu-Lapu City after reportedly receiving shots of pentavalent vaccine last week.

This was according to Dr. Hayce Ramos, medical coordinator for Child Care Program of DOH-Central Visayas, who said the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit will be investigating the report.

Ariel Igoy, grandfather of one of the babies who died after receiving the vaccine, on Tuesday lodged a formal complaint before the regional health office and requested for an investigation on the untimely death of his grandchild.

Families of the infant victims blamed the vaccine administered to the babies at the Barangay Pajac Health Center as the cause of the death.

Four-month-old Ghirvaughn Mereign Limpangog and three-month-old Ayesha Mae Suson both died three days after receiving the shots on Nov. 8.

However, the death certificates of Limpangog and Suson showed their causes of death were meningitis and dehydration, respectively.

Lapu-Lapu City Health Office head, Dr. Rodolfo Berame, belied the allegation that the deaths were caused by the pentavalent vaccine, which was also administered to almost 90 children that day.

Pentavalent vaccine is a protection against diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis B, and influenza. (PNA/PN)
