ILOILO City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6, in collaboration with the Iloilo City Government, will pay tribute to household workers, or kasambahays, in celebration of the anniversary of Republic Act (RA) 10361, also known as the “Batas Kasambahay”, enacted on January 18, 2013.
The “Araw ng Kasambahay” celebration is set for January 31 at the Museum of Philippine Economic History. To be led by DOLE-6 director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr., the event will gather kasambahay groups, employers’ associations, local government representatives, and homeowners’ groups to recognize the vital role of domestic workers in Filipino households.
With the theme “#PARAKAYK: Katatagan para sa isang Bayan na Nakikilahok at Nagkakaisa para sa Isang Bagong Pilipinas”, the program will feature technical learning sessions on the key provisions of RA 10361 and the International Labor Organization Convention No. 190 (ILO C190), the first international treaty advocating a workplace free from violence and harassment.
DOLE-6 emphasized the importance of educating kasambahays and stakeholders about the care work economy, the rescue and rehabilitation of abused domestic workers, and Labor Advisory No. 18, series of 2018, which defines their entitlements to statutory leave benefits and other labor standards.
The January 31 event highlights the invaluable contributions of kasambahays to their employers’ households, it stressed.
