BORACAY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) reiterated its call to Chinese travel tour operators to follow environmental laws in the world-famous island.

“We urged the different tour operators in China to tell their respective clients to adhere to environmental laws,” said DOT secretary Bernadette Puyat on Friday.

According to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office, Chinese and South Koreans posted the largest number of tourist arrivals in Boracay from April 14 to 19 this year.

Puyat noted they are still expecting an influx of foreign tourists as Boracay Island will commemorate its six-month closure.

“We are also open for all nationalities including domestic tourists to visit other tourism destinations,” Puyat said.

According to the DOT secretary, the tourism agency now feels vindicated as the world-famous island is now “back on track.”

“Boracay Island is again beautiful because of the ongoing rehabilitation and once again became a favorite tourism destination in the country,” she said./PN
