ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 has an officer-in-charge following the retirement of Regional Director Sanny Boy Oropel.

To ensure continuity in the agency’s leadership, Secretary Manuel Bonoan designated Engr. Joel Limpengco as OIC of the Office of the Regional Director effective immediately.

The appointment was formalized through a special order issued by Bonoan on June 13, citing Executive Order No. 124, which authorizes such designation in the interest of public service.

Limpengco is now tasked to perform the full duties and assume the responsibilities of the regional director, with all entitlements and benefits subject to existing accounting and auditing regulations.

His designation follows the exit of Oropel, who officially retired earlier this month after nearly a year of service as regional director.

Oropel assumed the post on August 1, 2023, replacing Engr. Nerie Bueno, who was earlier promoted to Assistant Secretary for Operations overseeing Regions 6, 7, 8, the National Capital Region, Region IV-A, and Region IV-B.

Prior to his designation, Limpengco held various key engineering roles within the department. A despedida party was held by DPWH-6 staff to honor Oropel’s service and leadership.

Prior to his designation as regional director, Oropel served as district engineer of the Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office located in the Municipality of Dumangas, Iloilo./PN
