ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Negros Occidental Second District Engineering Office, in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT), is currently implementing the construction of access road leading to Binadlan Falls, which is located at approximately 13 kilometers from Brgy. Bi-ao proper, in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental

The project involves concreting of 3.75-kilometer Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP), 6.10-meter wide, 230.00-milimeter thick road in the allocation of P100.00 million, funded under the District’s FY 2018 Infrastructure Program in the amount of P79.995 million, and also included in the Multi-Year Planning and Scheduling with another budget of P50.0 million to be included in FY 2019 Infra Program of the District.

According to District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos, the concreting of the existing earth road started in July this year and is expected to be completed in May next year, given favorable weather condition.

This earth road serves as the major access to the highland barangays in the town of Binalbagan, making it difficult for the residents to transport their products to the town, especially during rainy days; hence, with this road concreting project, land transportation and its accessibility will be improved, allowing the smooth flow of traffic and faster delivery of goods and services.

Likewise, this road will help boost tourism development of the town and the province as well as it provides access to Binadlan Falls, or commonly known as Bambi Falls, one of the many tourist destinations in the town of Binalbagan, which was featured in national television such as “Umagang Kay Ganda” of ABS-CBN and “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Sojo” of GMA Network.

Part of this road section, which was featured in national television, was enchanted as the locales say since their vehicles have hard time going down but easy going up; however, it actually has an optical illusion wherein motorists used to think that the road is going up but the fact is, it’s going downward, vice versa. Said road section is also considered a magnetic hill.

This road concreting project, when completed, will also invite both foreign and local tourists to visit Binadlan Falls and other tourist destinations in the area, boosting the tourism as well as economic development of the people and the town./PN
