DPWH to swap regional directors in Western Visayas, Negros Island Region

ILOILO — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement a leadership reshuffle in Western Visayas and the Negros Island Region (NIR), with regional directors set to swap assignments as part of ongoing oversight measures.

Secretary Vivencio Vince Dizon announced Monday that DPWH Region 6 officer-in-charge Engr. Jose Al Fruto will be reassigned to the NIR, while DPWH-NIR regional director Engr. Denise Maria Ayag will take over DPWH Region 6.

The announcement was made during a press briefing following Dizon’s inspection of the Aganan Flyover in Barangay Aganan, Pavia, Iloilo, on January 19.

Although no formal order has been released, Dizon said the exchange is already decided.

The DPWH chief did not elaborate on the reasons behind the swap.

Despite Ayag not yet formally assuming her new post, Dizon has already directed both Ayag and Fruto to proceed with the completion of the Aganan Flyover approaches, saying the work will not pose risks to passing motorists.

The approach works form part of the P229-million additional funding released by the DPWH Central Office for the completion of the delayed P802-million Aganan Flyover, which the government targets to finish and open to the public before December 25, 2026.

The Aganan Flyover’s construction was halted in the late part of 2022 after concerns were raised over its piers – not deep enough./PN
